EXPERT II-M-MPL
SMT Pick-and-Place with a Semi-Automatic / Manual Device
The EXPERT II-M-MPL adds a fine-pitch table and our microplacer (MPL) to the device, enabling precise placement of fine-pitch packages like BGAs and QFNs. A high-resolution beam splitter camera overlays the component's pins with the PCB pads, allowing for easy and accurate placement.
- All EXPERT II-M features and accessories included
- Increased accuracy up to 0.03 mm with fine-pitch table
- Microplacer for BGA, micro-BGA, QFN, MLF, QFP, PQFP, CSP, flip chip, and more
- 2 standard-sized MPL placement nozzles included
The EXPERT II from POWATEC is the successor to the widely known EXPERT series from Essemtec, in use at more than 4,000 production facilities, laboratories and educational institutions worldwide. It replaces the Expert-SA, Expert-FP and Expert-SAFP models.
Equipped with an X-Y-Z pantograph arm and absolute positioning sensors, the device offers intuitive, step-by-step guidance through the placement process. A 10.1″ full-HD touch display serves as the central control interface, while a motorized table automatically rotates to the correct component bin based on the imported PCB project.
Detection sensors in the placement head recognize the operator's intended action, so the device automatically activates the vacuum and displays the correct step on screen as soon as a pick or place is initiated. The microplacer uses prism-assisted alignment to visually overlay the component's pins with the PCB pads, allowing for easy and accurate placement. The software also includes quality-monitoring algorithms that prevent parts being placed outside the parameters defined in the project.

Full Software Package (RF-SW-EXP-II)
The full software package is activated with a license key and provides complete supervision of your project based on the imported PCBA design data. All feeding options are stored and made available for repeated actions and projects. The software monitors the correct pick-and-place location of each component and prevents placement errors. In combination with the optional motorization for the turntable, the correct component bin is automatically positioned for picking immediately after the previous component has been placed correctly. The display automatically switches between the camera view and the assembly plan.
Key features of the software are:
- Referencing the PCB position based on a loaded reference point list. Drag-and-drop functions simplify visuals on the touchscreen.
- Direct import of component lists and layouts from the PCBA design tool via USB stick. Import assembly lists to enable guided and controlled component placement.
- Import circuit board images to support visual guidance.
- Creation and storage of feeder inventory. Tables and trays can then be reactivated for the next project.
- Ability to create your own feeders and manage their inventory.
- Creation of assembly projects for single PCBs or panels with repetitive PCB pat-terns.
- Automatic calibration feature to ensure placement accuracy and quality.

The Turntable - Our Integrated Solution Ideal for Bulk Parts
Turntable
The turntable is our storage solution for organizing individual component types, available with either 45 or 90 bins.
- with 45 Bins (TT-EXP-B45)
- with 90 Bins (TT-EXP-B90)
Motorization for Turntable (NRF‑TT‑MOT‑EXP‑II)
Motorization allows the rotation of the turntable to the required component bin.
The motor is either operated by two buttons on the placement head (included basic software) or automatically by the full software package according to a project import.
Turntable Cover
Cover for the turntable to protect components during operation and storage. The cover has an opening for component handling, which can be rotated to the desired working position. Availabe in regular acrylic or in ESLON acrylic for ESD-sensitive components.
- Acrylic (TT-EXP-AC)
- ESD (TT-EXP-EC)
Locking Mechanism (TT-EXP-LM)
To fasten the cover (acrylic or ESD) to the turntable, ensuring components remain in the bins during storage or when exchanging it with another turntable.
Tape Reel Feeder
This device presents components ordered on reels to the user for placement. The protective cover and used tape are diverted away from the user to keep the pick area uncluttered.
Available for 8mm, 12mm, and 16mm wide reels.
Universal Stick Feeder
This device presents components ordered on sticks to the user for placement. The feeder enables the user to position the stick so that only the desired number of components are exposed, thus avoiding more components than necessary from being poured out.
Available for SO8-S028, SO8L-SO28L, PLCC28-PLCC44, and PLCC52-PLCC84.
Short Tape Feeder
This device allows users to use short pieces of tape of varying widths. In applications where large quantities of a given component are not needed or possible, the Short Tape Feeder is a flexible option to handle short pieces of tape that are not on a reel.
This device contains five slots which support 3x8mm, 1x12mm, and 1x16mm width tapes. It can be mounted directly on the sliding bar, or on a base plate with other feeders.
Tray Table
The Tray Table is mounted onto the sliding bar of the device and provides a flat surface on which a tray of components can be placed. For applications where the required components are provided on a tray (e.g. a JEDEC tray), this device provides a flat and secure interface to ensure components can be properly picked.
The dimensions of the tray table are 310mm x 135mm (12.2" x 5.3").
Note: when the Tray Table is mounted, there is no space for other feeders.
Base Plate
Some of the feeder options require a base plate to be in place so that they can be properly installed. These base plates slide onto the sliding bar of the device and provide slots where different feeders can be easily installed and removed, as needed.
The Long Base Plate contains 12 slots for feeders and the Short Base Plate contains 5 slots for feeders.
Custom Feeders
If your application requires more feeders to be supported, or customization of any kind, contact your Powatec representative to see how we can best support your needs.
